Symbolic of wildness and of British Columbia's Rain Coast, a lone black bear pauses to survey his domain. From Knight Inlet to Alaska's border, the Great Bear Rainforest is one of the largest contiguous temperate rain forests left on earth. However, the rusty coiled cable tells a different story: One of clear-cut logging and huge barges anchored to rocky shorelines, waiting for what once was vast stands of thousand year-old cedar and Sitka spruce to be loaded on board.
